In recent months, I have been planning/working on getting my garden together. During this time not only have I battled the weather, but have also had to fight off hens who plucked up my sprouts and gardeners who mistake my sprouts for weeds. I've finally been able to establish something. It's official! I currently have sunflower, lettuce, carrots, and milkweed sprouts! Not to forget the soon to be watermelon, edamame, and pumpkin sprouts!
In addition to the garden, Whit and I have been wanting to start a compost to create our own soil and to become more sustainable. After researching a little we realized how intense composting can really be! We were really excited to get things rolling, so we ran out and bought a container for our new compost heap. Just after the first couple of days we found that almost anything can be composted! Ok, maybe not everything... but damn close to it! It's amazing to see how much food material would have been wasted if it was just thrown in the garbage.

So after just a week or so we already have a good looking heap of veggies, coffee grounds, egg shells, and anything else that counts as compost safe. Further researching led us to the power that worms have on composts! Red Wrigglers to be exact, can help the breakdown process tremendously. So currently we're on the search to find some of these wiggly creatures...
